Ruthless People

Synopsis

In the darkly comedic world of *Ruthless People*, millionaire fashion mogul Sam Stone (Danny DeVito) finds himself unexpectedly liberated when his shrill, overbearing wife, Barbara (Bette Midler), is abducted by a pair of amateur kidnappers (Judge Reinhold, Helen Slater). Far from distraught, Sam is ecstatic, refusing to pay the ransom and secretly hoping her disappearance becomes permanent. As the bumbling captors struggle to control their exasperating hostage and Sam revels in his newfound freedom, a chaotic web of mistaken identities, botched schemes, and hilarious betrayals unfolds, proving that sometimes, the most ruthless people aren't the criminals, but those who stand to gain from their crimes.
