Umberto D.

Synopsis

Umberto D. masterfully paints a somber portrait of post-war Italy, where the weight of existence presses heavily on its most vulnerable citizens. The film follows Umberto Domenico Ferrari, a retired civil servant, as he navigates the crushing realities of old age, loneliness, and societal indifference. Each frame brims with a quiet desperation, echoing Umberto's struggle to maintain his dignity and a roof over his head. His only true companion, his loyal dog Flick, becomes a beacon of unwavering love in a world that seems to have forgotten compassion. This isn't just a story; it's an immersive experience into the profound ache of being overlooked.
