Oh, Canada

Synopsis

In Paul Schrader's *Oh, Canada*, acclaimed documentary filmmaker Leonard Fife, portrayed by Richard Gere, grapples with his past as he faces his mortality. Set against the backdrop of his final interviews, the film unravels Fife's meticulously constructed life story, beginning with his contentious decision to flee to Canada during the Vietnam War. While he built a revered career and a seemingly impeccable public persona there, these candid conversations force him to confront the inconvenient truths and moral compromises that underpin his legend. The film delves into the often-blurry lines between memory, invention, and self-preservation, compelling both Fife and the audience to question the very nature of identity and the narratives we choose to live by.
